While I could list all the cliche answers that come out of books and movies, traveling has done more for me than just provided a sense of culture, gratitude or open-mindedness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every single person you meet along the way has a story to tell. Some of these stories stay with you - as do the people that tell them, while others are cautionary tales that seem to come back to you exactly when you need them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Each place you visit makes a little space in your brain and finds it way directly to your heart. Some memories are not as fun or pleasant as others and to me, it seems that those are the hardest to forget.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What lesson did this place teach you? What travel anecdote do you now have that you can share with others so that they may not run into the issues you did?

There is a sense of adventure to every one of my expeditions that I couldn't change even if I tried. I love losing Google Maps for a few hours and taking in as much of the place I'm in as possible. I love finding local eateries and discovering what places I should see directly from the people that call that place home. I don't think I could ever go back to a planned-to-the-minute itinerary again.

So...to answer the question: travel is where I lose myself. It is where I find the courage to let go of the self-doubt and go in search of my own truth, showing me that there is nothing to be scared of in the unknown if you are willing to open your mind and your heart.

I can't believe it's been a year since this picture was taken and I was wandering around the UK.

Isn't it crazy how the days feel long as hell working from home, zoom call after zoom call - but also like time is flying? I mean, we're almost halfway through the year!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm looking forward to things slowly opening back up, however it seems like the travel industry will take a long time to go back to the way it was. Already I have missed trips to The Netherlands, France and Spain.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had planned on visiting family in Italy in September and attending Oktoberfest for the very first time in October. Sadly, this won't be the year to experience the craziness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What trips or events have been canceled or have you missed because of Covid? Have you been able to get a refund or new date?

I crave the serenity this picture exudes. The peace that envelopes me while sitting in my seat - feeling the roar of the turbines, knowing my next destination is mere moments away. The excitement of new sights, sounds and smells; of people to meet and stories to hear; of foods to try and breathtaking sunsets to behold.

Everyone deals with anxiety in their own way and it wasn’t until this pandemic I realized just how much travel impacts my sanity. With this realization came guilt. It took some time to understand why this guilty feeling was there and how to change this mindset completely.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My guilt came from reading and hearing about so many powerful stories of heroes on the front lines. How do you tell healthcare workers that you miss the luxury of waking up in a new city, not knowing what that day will bring? How do you measure something as trivial as world exploration to fathers losing sons, mothers losing fathers or kids having to see their parents via Zoom for weeks because they’re working another late shift at the hospital?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once I really started to analyze these thoughts and all the different feelings that were mixed up inside, I realized something. We all deal with panic, stress and anxiety in our own way. The most important thing to remember is that your feelings are just as valid as anyone else’s. While your experience may not be the same as that of a front line worker, it doesn’t make your fears, panic or stress any less real.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The best thing to do during these chaotic times is take care of yourself. Whether this means keeping busy, doing nothing at all or something in between.

So, my friends, I invite you to take in the beauty of this picture with me - close your eyes, breathe in the cool, crisp air and feel the sunshine on your face.

When traveling, especially to a destination that is very different from where you live, there are many things to consider and plan for.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I learned this lesson when planning my trip to Bali ☀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Budget: You will need to think about your expenses for all things, including food, transportation around the city (or cities) you will be visiting, accommodation (hostel, hotel, b&b, etc.)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💴 Currency Exchange: is it better to do it once there? What is the current exchange rate? How much should you have with you for your arrival (it's always important to have some local currency no matter where you go for cabs, food or any immediate needs).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Visas: this one is very important as some visas can take weeks to finalize. Make sure you meet all the requirements and do exactly as is asked or you risk losing your money because you can't get into the place you are trying to visit.

💉Vaccines: Not always necessary (I don't like to get them if I don't have to), but definitely something you have to consider when traveling to a new, exotic place.

Planning: While planning comes easy to me (I offer planning services! Link in bio😎), many people don't think about this part until they are at their location. It's important to have some sort of plan in order to maximize your time in any place.

My last trip to London was exactly 1 year ago. The weather started out cloudy, in true London form, but later we were gifted with a gorgeous sunset.

Reading about how the UK has slowly turned into the European epicenter for Covid has been very sad to hear, especially as someone from the US epicenter.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
